Mercedes Generation EQ: an electric suv that will arrive in 2019
We already warned you that Mercedes was going to create a sub-brand of electric vehicles for which it had already registered the initials of EQ, and the first model to show them, even as a prototype, is the Generation EQ, an SUV of appearance coupe and four doors that becomes the first of a family of ten models that will arrive from here to 2025 and that will, according to sources of the brand, between 15% and 25% of the billing of the brand in the future. Mounted on a platform that could also be used in saloons and coupes, the architecture has been based on mixing steel, aluminum and carbon fiber to achieve lightness and strength and a price not exorbitant. With these premises, the Generation EQ has been designed to combine at the same time the dynamic character of an SUV, the coupe silhouette and the design of the behind-the-scenes 'shooting break', which alludes to sports models with a family-style body. His 'electric look' has been achieved with a virtual radiator grille in blue whose lines extend to the front optics. Increase its peculiar design the hood in black, which seems to find its prolongation throughout the vehicle thanks to the panoramic roof, and round it all with wipers, hidden, cameras instead of rear-view mirrors and the absence of door handles, which open remote form.
Inside, a huge screen (53 cm wide and 11 high) of floating aspect oriented towards the driver offers all the necessary information, while the steering wheel has touch controls (by OLED screen) that allow you to drive between the different menus . The content of the information offered in a mixture of electric blue, white and 'pink gold' colors, in any case, is configurable and also varies depending on the chosen driving mode or the charging process, which will be by induction. prototype, the Generation EQ has four independent seats of minimalist appearance that seem to float inside the cabin. The loudspeakers are integrated into the headrests themselves, and in general, a white leather decoration has been used, with 'rose gold' finishes and the brown color has been used for the central sections of the seats and the armrests that act as a contrast visual.Mercedes-Benz promises a further step in the field of autonomous driving in this Generation EQ whenever the legislation of each country allows. Thus, not only knows the particularities of the road, but also establishes a very complete communication with other cars and infrastructure (what is called 'Car to X') to avoid accidents. The mechanical section has been entrusted to two electric motors, one of them on the front axle and one on the rear, which add up to 408 HP and more than 700 Nm of torque. No more performance data has been offered than an acceleration that would allow it to reach 100 km / h from a standstill in less than 5 seconds, combined with a range of more than 500 km.
The final version of this Generation EQ will arrive in 2019 and will have the price of a well-equipped GLC, so that its price could stay somewhat below 60,000 euros.
